A mesmerizing, rolling green valley in the Northeast. Famous for its seasonal, rare Dzukou Lilies, icy rivers, and lush dwarf bamboo forests.
The Dzukou Valley trek is a unique visual experience that stands apart from the typical Himalayan trails. Located on the border of Nagaland and Manipur, the landscape here is characterized by smooth, undulating green hillocks entirely covered in a rare species of dwarf bamboo.
During the monsoon and post-monsoon seasons, the valley transforms into a canvas of vibrant colors, blooming with the endemic pink Dzukou Lily, aconitums, euphorbias, and rhododendrons. The trek is short, relatively low in altitude, and physically undemanding, making it the perfect getaway for beginners or those seeking a tranquil, photographic journey.
While this is an Easy trek, the initial ascent involves steep stone steps. Trekkers are advised to begin basic cardiovascular preparation. Proof of running 3km in under 25 minutes 10 days prior to the departure date is required to ensure a comfortable climb.
A relaxed, perfectly paced itinerary that allows maximum time for photography and valley exploration.
Meet the pickup team at Dimapur Airport or Railway Station. Enjoy a beautiful, winding drive up into the hills of Nagaland to the capital city, Kohima. After checking into the hotel, the evening is free to explore the local markets or rest before the trek begins.
A short drive takes us to Viswema village, the starting point of the trek. The trail begins with a steep, hour-long climb up stone steps through a thick forest. Once you clear this ascent, the trail flattens out, offering an incredible, level walk right into the heart of the valley.
A full day dedicated to exploring the massive expanse of the valley. We will hike down to the crystal-clear Dzukou river, which winds beautifully through the green mounds. In the afternoon, we take a short hike to explore the local Bhoot Gufa (Ghost Cave).
We take a different, shorter route for our descent. The steep trail down to Jakhama village is fast and drops rapidly through the bamboo forests. At the road head, our vehicles will be waiting to drive you back to Dimapur, concluding the expedition by late afternoon.
