Walk through ancient Himalayan villages steeped in mythology along the beautiful Ruinsara valley, under the shadow of the mighty Swargarohini peaks.
The Har Ki Dun trek, often referred to as the Valley of Gods, is one of the most historically rich trails in the Indian Himalayas. Believed to be the path taken by the Pandavas on their ascent to heaven, the valley is steeped in epic Mahabharata mythology and local folklore.
Beyond its cultural significance, the trek is visually stunning. You will hike through ancient villages featuring exquisite wooden architecture, traverse deep pine forests, and emerge into vast alpine meadows with unobstructed views of the Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Black Peak mountain ranges.
While categorized as Easy-Moderate, the long walking distances require good cardiovascular health. Trekkers must provide proof of running 5km in under 35 minutes 15 days prior to the departure date. Failure to meet this may result in offboarding at the base camp.
A thoughtfully paced itinerary that maximizes cultural immersion and natural beauty.
Meet the India Treks pickup team at Dehradun Railway Station early morning. Enjoy a scenic drive winding through the pine forests of Mussoorie and along the Tons River up to the bustling trekking hub of Sankri. We conduct our first mandatory physiological checks upon arrival.
A short drive takes us to the village of Taluka, where the trek officially begins. The trail is mostly flat, descending gently alongside the Supin river before entering dense woodlands of walnut, pine, and chestnut. Pauni Garaat is a beautiful clearing offering peaceful river sounds.
Today we trek past the historic village of Osla, famous for its ancient wooden houses and the unique Duryodhana temple. The trail then ascents gradually above the tree line to the open meadows of Kalkatiyadhaar, revealing spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks.
The most rewarding day. We start early, climbing through beautiful alpine terrain to reach the magnificent Har Ki Dun valley. You are surrounded by massive peaks, including the formidable Swargarohini. After spending time exploring the valley, we hike back down to our Kalkatiyadhaar campsite.
