Experience India's ultimate winter snow climb. Deep pine forests, frozen lakes, and a dramatic 360-degree Himalayan summit.
The Kedarkantha trek is arguably the best winter snow trek in the Indian Himalayas. From the majestic, imposing views of the Swargarohini, Black Peak, and Bandarpoonch ranges to the magical campsites set in ancient pine forest clearings, it offers a dramatic alpine experience from day one.
Because the technical difficulty is relatively low, it serves as the perfect initiation for beginners looking to understand high-altitude winter survival, while still offering a thrilling, steep summit climb that requires deep mental focus and cardiovascular fitness.
To ensure baseline physiological safety at 12,000+ feet, all trekkers must provide proof of running 5km in under 35 minutes 15 days prior to the departure date. Failure to meet this may result in offboarding at the base camp.
A meticulously designed itinerary built to optimize acclimatization and visual reward.
Meet the India Treks pickup team at Dehradun Railway Station at 6:30 AM. The drive to Sankri is stunning, passing through Mussoorie and alongside the Yamuna river. Upon arrival, you will undergo your first mandatory pulse and oximeter baseline check, followed by an expedition briefing by your Trek Leader.
The trail starts moving out of Sankri village and immediately enters a dense pine and oak forest. The ascent is gradual but continuous. You will reach the campsite by early afternoon. Juda-Ka-Talab is a striking, completely frozen high-altitude lake surrounded by dark pine trees—a perfect setting for astrophotography.
A short but steep climb through oak forests. The tree line ends abruptly here, opening up to a massive snow-covered clearing. The base camp is heavily exposed to winds, but offers an unobstructed 180-degree view of the Himalayan ranges. Early dinner is served at 6:30 PM to prepare for the alpine start.
The most demanding day. We start the climb at 3:00 AM using headlamps and micro-spikes. The final 300 meters is a steep 45-degree incline. You will reach the summit precisely at sunrise. After taking in the panoramic views, we descend rapidly to the base camp for a hot lunch, then continue down to the sheltered Hargaon clearing.
